{mosimage}AT ONE POINT WE TOLD OURSELVES “WE ARE NOT THAT YOUNG ANYMORE”..... AND THIS IS WERE OUR STORY BEGINS!

¿Why to stop doing what we like best? ¿Just because we are above 35?  
 

To be perfectly clear, we just didn´t feel to stop playing rugby just because age, so in 1983 a group of players from variuos teams decided to unite and create the Associació de Veterans de Rugby de Barcelona.
 

The base for this group were a wide group of teams in and around Barcelona: BUC, Club Natació Barcelona, Picadero, FC Barcelona, Montjuic, Universitari, Poble Nou, Hospitalet, Sant Boi and others.
 

From the begining we rented various playing fields and other facilities that allowed us to play at least once a week, followed by the always important accompanying after match “activities” so dear to oldies teams around the world. We also organized matches with visiting teams and attended the Golden Oldies Tournament right from the begining.
 

WHO ARE WE AND WHAT DO WE DO
 

At our first meeting we established, as the main purpose of our Associació, the encouragement of the continuing practice of rugby among the veteran players.
 

If you ask our wives and girlfriends, they will tell you that the real purpose is to disappear from home to get together with our chums to drink beer and dream about glories well past. According to us, what we feel when we get in our now multi-colored shorts to soak in mud or dust can only be understood by those fortunate who have played rugby sometime in their life. Well, these are two ways of saying more or less the same thing.

Our shield is composed by a couple of peppers, one green and one red, accompanied by the mixed english-catalan sentence “King´s pebrots”.
For those coming from Catalonia, the meaning is quite clear. A short explanation for our overseas friends: Peppers, in the most colloquial and irreverent sense, has for us the same meaning than balls for the english speaking people. King, in this particular case, has nothing to with royal families. The sentence “king's pebrots” sounds in catalan like “What balls!!!” or can be construed as “Regal Balls”, whatever you prefer.
 

WHERE DO WE PLAY
 

At present, we are renting the Hospitalet Rugby Field where you will find us practically every saturday during the autumn, winter and spring time, at around 12.30. Playing field plus bar with ample supply of beer, so important for oldies aftermatch activities around the world.
 

Along the years, we have been happy to welcome teams from Europe and North and South America, to whom we have offered the hospitality so common in the oldies rugby family. We will be happy to welcome you in Barcelona as a team or as an individual who plans to spend some time here. We have had players from many countries. We are now “suffering” a pacific invasion of argentine players residing in Barcelona. Nothing has basically changed, except that the same conversations at the “third time” after the matches take much, much longer!!!!!
